Directed by Johanna Schwartz, ‘They Will Have To Kill Us First’ was premiered at the SxSW Festival in 2015 and went on to pick up acclaim at various film festivals around the globe before receiving a UK cinema release in the autumn of 2015. The film loosely tells the story of the oppression of music and musicians in Mali by Taliban extremists and the remarkable narrative that brought Songhoy Blues to a world stage.
