Jack White - Boarding House Reach
‘Boarding House Reach’ sees Jack White expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern. Written and conceived while holed up in a Spartan apartment with literally no outside world distractions, White exclusively used the same kind of gear he had when he was 15 years old (a quarter-inch fourtrack tape recorder, a simple mixer and the most basic of instrumentation). The album explores a remarkable range of sonic terrain - crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues and even country - all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation. ‘Boarding House Reach’ is a testament to the breadth of Jack White’s creative power and his bold artistic ambition.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
No kidding, this is one of the most refreshing bands I've heard in ages...Think of the feeling when you heard Arcade Fire for the first time or perhaps Burial, you knew it was exciting and new, you felt that you were on to something different. Well Vampire Weekend are one of those bands, instantly accessible but following their own path. This is a super album from start to finish, taking in lots of influences but without being messy. Should be one of the albums of 2008. VERY RECOMMENDED.

White Stripes - Icky Thump
What can i say about this album? Well it follows in their great tradition of always edging their sound a little further away from previous releases yet still being unmistakably the White Stripes, it's also a very very good album which will win over the ever decreasing number of non fans, and as for us fans...well it's brilliant, chock full of stand out tracks. Recommended.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
At long last the physical copy of the album is upon us after the download experiment where people were supposed to pay for how much they thought it was worth, where most people paid hardly anything, not because it's a bad album...it's not, in fact it's a really great Radiohead album...now it's available in shops lets hope the people who actually 'intend' to buy it actually do. Musically it covers a lot of area's from electronica, rock and pop and experimental but it retains a very accessable edge. It's totally going to be a repeated play affair, and lyrically it's superb as usual. Another Radiohead slab of magic for sure.

Powell - Sport
Powell's new album, Sport, is one "for both mind and body... fun and playful." Also like making a record, Powell says that "you're shit at sport if you don't bring both things to it, so yeah, the music is physical and you can dance to it but I also wanted it to drag people's brains along for the ride too." His last 12", Insomniac, was cherished here in the shop and the excitement is already rising for Sport - in Oscar Powell's words, "not a techno record... a dance record... a 'no-wave techno' thing... it's just the sound of what goes on in my head."

Lapsley - Long Way Home
Southport-raised, London-based singer, songwriter and producer Holly ‘Låpsley’ Fletcher reveals details of her highly-anticipated debut album. The twelve track album features new versions of her previous acclaimed releases ‘Hurt Me’, ‘Falling Short’, ‘Painter’ and ‘Station’, as well as brand new single ‘Love Is Blind’. ‘Long Way Home’ documents a turbulent time in Låpsley’s life - a period in which she revelled in her new-found music career as it took her from Liverpool to London to Los Angeles and back again. Låpsley’s determined views on her own production have ensured her involvement in every element of these songs, a fact that in the early days seemed to confuse many of the producers she met. “They didn’t want to listen to me,” she says, “or they think a girl’s just there to add a top line, or they come to the table with ideas already. Straight away if I come in to a studio and someone says ‘I’ve written something for you’, then I’ll just walk out. I don’t care. I’m not there for that.”

Avalanches - Wildflower
Following an unprecedented sixteen-year gap between albums and all the revolutions the world has made since the release of their hugely acclaimed, award winning debut album ‘Since I Left You’ (2000), The Avalanches announce their new album, ‘Wildflower’, featuring Danny Brown, MF Doom, Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi, Jennifer Herrema, Biz Markie and more. Created by the band’s core duo - Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi - ‘Wildflower’ is nothing less than The Beach Boys’ ‘Smile’ reimagined in the Daisy Age; a mind-bending cartoon road movie that’s best viewed with closed eyes and an open mind. Lead track ‘Frankie Sinatra’ is an infectious old world carnival inspired rollercoaster of a song. Featuring Danny Brown and MF Doom on vocals, the song also includes works by calypsonian Wilmoth Houdini and Rodgers & Hammerstein. In the years since the release of ‘Since I Left You’ the album has established a rarely seen loyalty, its influence ever growing in the age of digital music, sampling and bedroom producers. The Avalanches, meanwhile, have become the stuff of folklore, with rumours abounding about a long awaited follow-up record. Today the rumours end.

King Krule - The Ooz
One of the most celebrated figureheads on the independent British scene, Archy Marshall returns with the dense, sprawling “The OOZ”, the much anticipated follow up to his debut “Six Feet Beneath the Moon”. Drifting and seeping through the cracks of South London like the album title, King Krule casts an unflinching eye over his kingdom, transforming his observations of all the disorientation and heartbreak of his youth into piercing narratives and poetry that are both startlingly honest and brutally beautiful. With “The OOZ”, Marshall finally takes the crown as poet laureate for the dazed and confused generation, painting a bleak and sometimes harrowing picture of a rapidly splintering city.

Everything Is Recorded - Everything Is Recorded By Richard Russell
‘Everything Is Recorded By Richard Russell’ was recorded at Russell’s West London studio, The Copper House. Over the past couple of years the studio became a creative second home for the revolving cast of both new and established artists who passed through to write, record and share ideas, mixing traditional recording sessions with extended, uninhibited live jams that lasted long into the night. With Russell at the production helm, a spirit of soundsystem-inspired collaboration and experimentation runs through the heart of an album that is born out of some spontaneous moments of togetherness and periods of intense personal reflection for its creator, and is at once soulful, timeless and boldly modern.
