"It's been called ska, it's even been called blue beat and rock steady but when these bands start swinging, our young people are in agreement, the only word for it is FUN!" Get your best black and white checkerboard outfit ready as Jumbo is celebrating all things ska for Scalarama Leeds this year! We're heading back to 1981 with this legendary concert film of the best of 2Tone Records, the iconic label that emerged from Coventry in 1979. Featuring the brilliant Bad Manners, The Beat, The Bodysnatchers, Madness, The Selecter and more at the peak of ska's popularity. This film has been restored and re-released in 2023. Director Joe Masot (The Song Remains The Same) and acclaimed cinematographer Joe Dunton filmed 2Tone bands at various venues in 1980. There's 27 songs in the film and it captures a unique moment in music. Steadicam was newly invented and Super 35mm film was used which makes it look like the camera is dancing along to the beat of the music. This helps to really feel the energy and enthusiasm of the musicians on stage and makes it exciting. The music and performances will make you smile and you just can't help but move your feet to the infectious rhythms and sounds of ska. If you're a ska fan you won't want to miss this. The film contains a sequence of flashing lights which might affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy. THERE ARE NO PHYSICAL TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT. YOUR NAME WILL BE ADDED TO A DOOR LIST ON THE DAY OF THE SCREENING.
