After previous afrofusion and funk/soul live shows at KCC, top UK jazz/world music music promoter DJ Lubi presents an all-day Latin American fiesta for his next event at the venue. On Sunday 1st November, CASA LATINA is coming to KCC. From 12.00 to 21.00, an all day family friendly party of Latin American music featuring live bands, DJs, a Latin percussion workshop, a salsa dance class and authentic Latin American food served all day long. The venue opens at 12.00 with Peruvian internationally acclaimed chef Cecilia Tupac serving fine Peruvian and Latin American cuisine in one of the side rooms for lunch. They will be serving all day but starting with lunch at 12.00 and then dinner at 6pm. The bar will also be open and there will be Latin music in both rooms.. At 13.00, there will be a Latin American music and percussion workshop hosted by Jonny Enright and Sam Bell from top UK mambo/salsa ensemble Orchestra Mambo International. It will also be in a side room. Beginners level workshop giving you the basic rhythms of Afro-Cuban music and salsa. All ages welcome (kids with adults please). Limited capacity (just 20 places) so email info@djlubi.com to book and confirm a place. At 15.00, we open the main room with some Brazilian DJ music. First live sets will be at 15.30 with a traditional Brazilian roda de samba. This is where the band sits around a table in a room playing traditional Brazilian samba hits, with people joining in on voices, instruments and percussion. The session will be hosted by Roda De Choro E Samba, led by Argentinian saxophonist Martin Berger and Brazilian musician Gustavo Andrade. The 4-5 piece band hosts monthly roda de samba jams in Leeds. There will also be members of local samba batucada percussion band Kirkgate Bateria jamming with the roda band. They're based in KCC and they'll play a few sets during the day. At 16.30, the main room switches to salsa with a beginners salsa dance class by top salsa dance teacher Tara Balfour from Dance Moves Minds. Nice and easy beginners salsa dance class, no partner required. Just join in. At 17.30, DJ Lubi jumps on the decks with salsa/merengue/.Cuban music to warm up the floor for the headline band, local salsa heroes Los Camaradas. The well known community band will take the stage at 18.00 playing a set of heavy salsa and Cuban classics, and featuring special guest trombonist Jonny Enright from Orchestra Mambo International. They always fill the dance floors with their percussion and brass heavy salsa. DJ Lubi will hit the decks after the band and play until the end, closing off this great all-day celebration of Latin American culture in Shipley bringing together communities and generations.
